When Ashley was hospitalized to receive treatment for her cancer, it was acutely obvious that the recreational items available for patients were for young children – not teenagers. During her hospital stays, Ashley either used items geared toward a 6 year old or had nothing at all to occupy her time or enhance the quality of her life during hospitalizations. Most hospitals lacked the resources needed to purchase a variety of recreational items.
The Hospital Giving Program provides financial support to regional childhood cancer treatment facilities enabling them to purchase items that enhance the quality of life for teens receiving cancer treatment. These items include may include books, DVDs, music CDs, video games, board games, computers, printers, game stations, craft supplies, and journals. Additionally the Hospital Giving Program gives facilities the ability to offer support programs geared specifically to teens.If you are a childhood cancer treatment facility please contact The Community Foundation of Frederick County to learn how your facility may participate in this program. Facilities located in Baltimore-Washington Metro area are encouraged to apply.
